Tight affair between two very evenly matched sides that saw chances at a premium at both ends settled after 72 minutes by a tremendous 25 yard half volley from Harry Myles that was worthy of winning any game.
Not much in a first half that saw Chard edge the territorial advantage but the home side play the better football with a Myles free kick the nearest either side came to breaking the deadlock.
2nd half was much the same but the impressive pairing of Alex Pring and Dan Heavey began to take a stranglehold of the midfield areas and we gradually got on top of things with the outstanding Lewis Russell giving the away left back a torrid time and we were unlucky when Tom Harvey stole up from fullback and his close range effort flew into the side netting.
Was no surprise when we went ahead but undeterred Chard came straight back at us and within 5 minutes they were awarded a penalty that once again was superbly saved by the excellent Sam Thomson to keep us one to the good, straight back up the other end and only a superb save by the Chard keeper prevented a Robbie Tripp header from doubling the lead and then energetic substitute Billy Cookson was only inches away from putting the game to bed.
Saw it through to the end for a much needed 3 points thanks to all 16 lads involved today great effort from all and to 3 very good and smartly turned out officials, great day all round big well done everyone and we go again Wednesday at Ashton and Backwell.
