Match Report

Fairly even game played in continuous rain and settled by two superb goals, started fairly brightly taking the game to Welton but never really made the most of the openings with to many passes going astray in the final third though strikes from Ben Pring and Philip Baker made sure Welton keeper Tom Drewitt was alive to the situation and Robbie Tripp only inches away from connecting with a Pring cross, wasn't only one way though and only a superb Sam Thomson save from a fierce drive after a Welton break kept the game goalless and only 5 minutes later we took the lead when after a quick interchange of passes Baker thumped home a 25 yard volley in off the post to take us in at halftime 1 to the good.

Welton came out 2nd half full of fight and went close on a couple of occasions but superb defending from MOM Zach Costello and captain for the day Nick Chandler plus another superb Thomson save kept them at bay, gradually got a foothold on things and the game was settled on 75 minutes when Jon Bazley waltzed his way past 4 defenders before sliding the ball into the bottom corner of the net to ensure the points were staying at the Southbank.

Big well done to all the players today and hope you all enjoy your night out, also well done to the 3 officials who went about things with minimum fuss and to Welton who kept going for 90 minutes in as sporting a way as I have seen for a very long time.

We go again Wednesday when Almondsbury UWE are the visitors for what I'm sure will be another tough game .
