Corsham Town 5 Cinderford Town 0
A full-strength Corsham team had too much for ex-southern league outfit Cinderford Town on Saturday. Any of the five substitutes could easily have been in the starting line-up and the squad was brimming with talent.
It was a special moment for Leon Greenland as he was presented with a special shirt for notching up 100 games for Corsham, but as soon as the whistle was blown it was back to the serious business of winning 3 points against a fancied Cinderford.
The first half an hour was a tight affair Corsham where looking positive going forward but Cinderford where well well-organised and physically strong.
Good work between Simon Gilbert and Dan Demkiv created a good chance after 15 minutes but captain Mark Cooper couldn’t stretch far enough to convert the chance. James Rusby’s long throw started to cause havoc in the Foresters box, a loose ball falling to Alex Hallett who did well to shift the ball off to Kane Simpson but his effort was well off target.
Corsham went close again from a Demkiv corner, and Niekell Plumber tried an audacious bicycle kick that went just wide of the post. More corners followed and finally, the pressure paid off when a Cinderford player handballed in the box, there was little dispute over the decision and Plumber stepped up to put the hosts one up.
The second could have come minutes later when brilliant work by Demkizv saw him jink past the full-back and the Cinderford keeper did well to tip his drive onto the crossbar. The ball then got recycled and crossed back into the box where Demo found the net, but the referee disallowed the goal for handball.
It did come on 40 minutes from the head of Dan Price from a Demkiv corner, running out of things to say about the head of Pricey. Number 3 almost came seconds later when straight from the kick off Demkiv broke clear again, cut inside and his effort was well saved again, Plumber’s follow-up was then blocked on the line.
The Cinderford keeper was needed again minutes into the second half, another dangerous corner was cleared only for Simpson to put the ball back into the box and that man again, Dan Price, had his header superbly tipped over the bar.
Demkiv was in full flow now and another sweeping move saw him slip the ball to Kane Simpson who fired emphatically into the far corner, Corsham was now on fire.
Kane Simpson made it four courtesy of a short back pass which he dinked over the advancing keeper.
Dan Price got his second of the game and the first one this season that wasn’t a header, a great ‘Shaq Attack’ down the right wing saw Shaq cross superbly, Alex Hallett’s shot rebounded off the post and Pricey was on hand to stab the ball home.
Apart from the early stages, Corsham dominated the match and a superb tireless display from Jasper Jones in midfield earned him the man of the match.
