Corsham Town 0 Roman Glass St George 1
All good things must come to an end and unbeaten runs are no exception. Make no mistake Roman Glass are now a very good team and deserved their victory but Corsham battled strongly and the game could have gone either way.
The match started lively with both sides going for it and by the 15-minute Roman Glass were causing Corsham problems without working the Corsham keeper. The referee was being put under a lot of pressure from both sides with penalty claims at both ends of the pitch.
Corsham had the first real chance of the game when a deflected cross was parried by the Glass keeper and the ball fell to Alex Hallett, but his shot was straight at a defender and the ball was cleared.
A much better period for Corsham followed and they were asking all the questions, some dangerous crosses and lots of pressure on the Glass defence but they lacked a cutting edge in front of goal. Shaq Smith was terrorising his former teammates and the only answer they had was to foul him, resulting in the first booking of the game.
As the half-time whistle approached The Glass were getting back in the game and were unlucky to see a good move end in an offside flag. 0-0 at the break and Corsham had a real battle on their hands against a very good team.
The second half started as the first half had ended with both sides playing well but struggling to find the finishing touch. Corsham freshened things up with a double change, introducing Jasper Jones and Kane Simpson.
At 68 minutes the deadlock was broken when Roman Glasses’s leading goal scorer finished with precision coming in for the left.
Corsham responded well to the setback and Kane Simpson, finding a bit of space, shot over the bar. Corsham continued to push but the Roman Glass defence was well in control, a masterclass in defending a one-goal lead.
With the referee adding a good 7 minutes of injury time Corsham were desperate for an equaliser and when James Rusby shot hard and low from the edge of the box it was only the fingertips of the keeper that thwarted them.
The final whistle was wildly celebrated by Roman Glass, showing what it means to beat Corsham Town. The unbeaten run came to an end, time to start the next one.
