Durrington FC Ladies011
Corsham Town WFC358

On the release of the fixtures, I felt we were dealt a tough opener, in our first season, away to Durrington a strong experienced side who I expect to have title aspirations.
We ourselves have had a good week with our recruitment solving our much publicised need for a goalkeeper, and what an exciting prospect we have in Nia Davies who will be taking her first steps into open-age football.

I felt with the loss of the talented Abbie Wilding to a long-term injury, the need for a midfielder to pull the strings as required, enter the building the puppeteer Sophie Morgan stand by to be entertained this girl can play!!!

With  Polly Boother’s availability being a little limited the need to add another central defender to the group was needed and Keynsham Towns Ellie Goold became available, Ellie like many of our signings had fallen out of love with the game, it’s mine and Corsham Town FCs philosophy to reverse this and for none of our own to feel like this going forward, Ellie will prove to be a much-needed part of the group.

On to the game itself, on what was a very hot Sunday afternoon, we didn’t get off to the best of starts looking nervous on the ball and second best to any loose ball. Once the nerves had settled and we retained the ball more confidently Gabby Menghini started to take control of the midfield playing passes to the lively Andrea Chludilová and Sharon Redhouse and we went into halftime with a 3 – 0 advantage, having had a penalty denied when Shannon was unceremoniously scythed down. Goals coming from Andrea Chludilová and two from Shannon Redhouse.

In the second half, we dominated possession of the ball, witnessed a masterclass of midfield play from Gabby and Sophie Morgan getting on the ball and dictating the pace and play and we added further goals, another two from Andrea, Shannon completing her hattrick, and one each for Gabby Menghini and Chantalle Church, before conceding a sloppy consolation goal to the home side.

In a game that saw a relatively good performance from us in our Wiltshire League first-ever game, there were numerous contenders for POTM Menghini, Morgan, Redhouse, and Chludilova however I cannot see beyond Kate Eggs who belied her age and tiny size with some magnificent tackles in the first twenty minutes when we were not at our best.
